Natural history of the Sierra Nevada Course Description
Experience the Sierra Nevada and learn about local flora, fauna, geology,
ecology, and cultural influences with a naturalist as your guide. This
four-day trip will be located in Sequoia National Park between 7,000 and 11,000
ft. We will have a great opportunity to explore forest, sub-alpine, and
alpine ecosystems as we gradually make an ascent of Alta Peak. This course
is designed for those with prior backpacking experience so we can focus more on
natural history than technical backpacking skills. Space is limited to the
first 12 participants.
Montecito Lake Resort will supply all food, cooking gear,
shelter, fist aid, and water treatment systems. Some items on
the gear checklist that participants do not have can be rented from
Montecito Lake with advance notice.
Difficulty/Requirements
Participants should be 18 or older, physically fit and able to carry
a backpack over hilly, rocky terrain up to eight miles per day.
Prior backpacking experience is required.
